Keeping a Family Together

L1402_image

Cynthia lives in Lincoln with her three boys. She is raising her sons alone, and one of them has special needs.

Reliable transportation is such a core need to function at a basic level in our society, and we’ve been involved in helping meet this need for single moms in our community for a number of years now. For some, our car care clinics have ensured that their family stays safely on the road by providing much needed repair to a vehicle they already own. For others, we have had the opportunity to provide a new vehicle altogether.

The story today is about a donation that kept a family from splitting apart.

Cynthia’s sons had recently been having problems making it to school. So much so, that Cynthia began to hear from the Department of Health and Human Services on the matter. In fact, it soon reached the point that they threatened to take her kids away if she couldn’t make a case that the truancy would improve.

Turns out, because of vehicle problems, she was no longer able to consistently get her kids to school. If she couldn’t find a solution quickly, she would soon lose custody. Cornerstone Family Counseling caught wind of Cynthia’s story and reached out to BPM Inc. for help.

We were able to locate a van for her, but in a different way than ever before. After hearing Cynthia’s story, Bigler Motors actually ended up donating the vehicle to BPM Inc, and we presented her with the van at the Mazda store.

Did you catch that? One of our competitors heard the story, caught the vision, and stepped into the situation to help put Cynthia on a better path. Two dealers on the same turf saw a person in need, recognized their own unique position to help, and set aside business as usual to impact a family in our community.

This Mission that we keep our doors open for; there’s something to it beyond the walls of Anderson. At its core is a belief that people and their stories are incredibly important. Valuing people and helping create better stories is bigger than us. It crosses the border between businesses and binds together like-minded people that want to build a better community. As our Mission impacts our Industry, it will more greatly impact our Community.

This all starts with the sum of the individual efforts made on a daily basis by every member of the Anderson Team. Everyone’s effort makes our growing impact possible, and truly changes the lives of people like Cynthia.

Thanks for being part of the Anderson Team!

Chicken Shootout

The opening date for our new convenience store, Andy’s Express, will be here sooner than we think. Part of the preparation is making decisions about what kind of food will be served at the store.

Today was an important step in doing that, and the folks at the Mazda store got to do some delicious voting on what food from different vendors. Today, as you can see, we were primarily looking at fried chicken. Whatever brand we end up giving with, the final verdict for the day = delicious.

Mitsubishi Showroom Progress

S1401_image

Construction continues on the Mitsubishi Showroom in St. Joe. Looking good guys! For those of you outside St. Joseph, this construction is taking place on the same lot as our Kia store there.

We’ll have two separate showrooms on the same property in order to better merchandize our product and better serve the customer. It’s exciting to see the place take shape.

St. Joe Christmas Party Donation

If you attended the Anderson Christmas Party, you probably remember the Ford Flex that we stuffed with donations. People from every market pitched in to fill the vehicle with school supplies, toys, and winter attire. The contents were then evenly distributed to be donated to charitable organizations in each market. A lot of people in need received help to make the holiday season a little easier.

The St. Joe BPM Committee (pictured above) delivered their donations to the YWCA Women & Children’s shelter. Nice work guys!

InterServ Donation

S1321_image

This time of year often brings to mind images of cozy families enjoying one another’s company around a home cooked meal. But for many, hunger is a cold reality that doesn’t take a break during the Holiday season.

The St. Joe team put together an awesome donation for InterServ in St. Joseph. InterServ is a group of volunteers, churches, and community organizations that:

…provides programs and services designed to lessen the impact of poverty on our community.

This donation was put together by the Ford Store, Kia & Mitsubishi, and St. Joe Honda. Great work team!

2013 Andy Award Trip

The 2013 Anderson Christmas Party was an awesome time. We had a couple of really significant “firsts”.

We rolled out Anderson’s Ten Year Vision. “Where are we going?” “How does what I do fit into the bigger picture?” This Vision addresses those questions and more. Hit the link and check out the post if you haven’t had a chance to yet.

We also hosted the first ever Andy Award Ceremony. The four winners were selected by you, their peers, for being great examples of the Anderson Cultural Values. Congrats to Sue Koch, Nathanael Ziegler, Aaron Armstrong, and Justin Drieling!

In celebration of these winners and their contribution to move the Cultural Values forward, they were flown to Chicago for an all-expenses paid shopping trip! An awesome time was had by all.

As the Cultural Values, Team, Humility, Empowerment, Motivation, Vision, Development, Effective Leadership, Balanced Life, and Trust, are lived out across the company, we will all have a front-row seat to seeing our Mission Because People Matter become a reality. Exciting times ahead! Thanks for everything you to move the team forward.
