Bamanda is a grandmother who took her grandchildren in when they were placed into foster care. Bamanda is unable to work due to a stroke 4 years ago that left her with physical limitations, however, she works closely with the family so the kids can maintain a positive relationship with their parents. She manages her household on very little money and does not ask for a lot of assistance, but is always grateful when it is given.
We originally were going to make repairs to her car during our Car Care Clinic this year then she had a string of bad luck. Bamanda was in a car accident a few days prior to her scheduled inspection. After waiting for insurance, she was finally able to bring it in for inspection. Upon seeing the car, we were unable to perform the inspection due to the damage from the accident. Bamanda agreed to donate her car to the program in exchange we replace hers. Bamanda has been patiently awaiting her future cars repairs to be completed. During her wait, her bad luck continued, her damaged car broke down on the street. Before we learned this it had already been towed by the city. With the tow and storage fees, it was too expensive for Bamanda or Because People Matter to get her car out of impound. While we are not receiving her car, we are giving this very selfless grandmother the transportation she needs to get her grand babies to and from school and needed appointments. Bamanda continues to be the rock her family has come to rely on and we are happy to help her maintain her stability.
